Following the cholera outbreak in the south, the Philippine Health Department has sent a team to the location of outbreaks, which is a remote area in the hills near Palimbang in Sultan Kudarat province.

According to local health officials, Mayor Samrud Mamansual, Thursday (7 / 8), the victims of the cholera epidemic is commonly are children who live in villages near Palimbang hilly region. The death toll was first reported Monday in the village of Milbuk, about 1,000 km south of Manila. The victim and her family from the Manobo tribe is accustomed to using rain water as drinking water.

Head of Epidemiology Department of Health, Dr. Eric Tayag said a team of health workers are currently on their way to the region to help tackle the cholera epidemic.

"Until now we're focused prevent more deaths," said Samrud. "We do not expect it to grow worse," he added.

Red Cross volunteers Mariloe Torres had just visited the region's states, the victims who died suffered dehydration, while all the victims suffered from diarrhea and vomiting.

Cholera is a gastrointestinal illness caused by consumption of drinking water or contaminated food.
